Today is the first day of real autumn… like Uggs and scarves and all things warm. Even the sunlight was cold!! So long day that started at 6am… and has since ended with the gym. Damn I hate the gym. I thought it would be such a great idea seeing as how I’m not ready to give into the cold. First off, the gym is not free. And I come a school of thought that running should be free. Sure you buy shoes and iPods and fancy stuff, but theoretically, running is free. I guess gyms do better when it’s cold out… Second, the treadmill is really odd. All of a sudden, my 9min/mile felt like a 7:30 min/mile…. and I used to run a 7:30 min/mile… so I know what it feels like and what 9 mins feels like… and when you decide to go for a nice little 4 mile run, the last thing you want to do is run till you die. Also, on the tredmill, you feel your knees and your legs unlike you normally do… all of a sudden, there’s a new pain in your knee… wtf?! AND THEN, there’s the iPod. Of course you can’t swing your arms like you normally do because you’re attached to something on the machine (I must admit the fact that the treadmill is essentially “hands free” is rather nice)… and then (more than once in my case) your arm gets tangled in the headphones and woooshh, there goes the ipod, off the treadmill and into the mirror.
It also didn’t help that I felt like I was going to vomit the whole time… I think a direct result of chowder at lunch and grape Gatorade. The thought makes me want to hurl. Over intake of calcium before my run: lesson learned.
What did help was the AMAZING music I had blasting. I downloaded deadmau5’s new album “For Lack of a Better Name” and it’s unreal… especially the first track, FML. Seriously download it.
OH! AND I’m offically signed up for a 1/2 Marathon this Sunday. I’ve figured that if work prevents me from running the full on the 1rst then at least my training won’t go to waste. I could take a gamble and run the full marathon but I know that Murphy’s law will have it that I would be able to run the NYC Marathon… so I’d better be prepared for anything.
I’m in the final week of fundraising…. I need your help more than ever!!!
